Roethlisberger full  practices with Steelers

Steelers  QB Ben Roethlisberger fully participated in practice Wednesday as he tries to  return from an ankle injury that kept him out of the Dec. 24 win over St. Louis.

Roethlisberger  told reporters his ankle was "a little better each day" and he wanted  to see how it responded to practice.

Coach  Mike Tomlin said Monday that Roethlisberger had "a shot" to play  after sitting out the Steelers' 27-0 victory over the St.  Louis Rams. Roethlisberger first sustained the injury Dec. 8 against  the Cleveland Browns and played through the injury the following week in the  Steelers' loss to the San Francisco  49ers, but he was noticeably hindered by the injury.

"It  would be nice to get an extra week of rest, but I prefer to play,"  Roethlisberger said about resting the ankle in Sunday's regular-season finale  against the Cleveland  Browns.

The  Steelers can capture the AFC North title with a win at Cleveland  on Sunday coupled with a Baltimore loss to Cincinnati. A tie at Cleveland, as well as a Ravens loss, also would give the  North title to Pittsburgh.

If the Pittsburgh  Steelers win the North, they will at least capture the No. 2 seed in  the AFC, as well as a first-round bye. A Pittsburgh  win, along with a New England loss and a Baltimore  loss or tie, would give the Steelers the No. 1 seed in the AFC and home-field  advantage throughout the conference playoffs.

Rangers' Marc Staal  cleared for contact

With  the Winter Classic one week away,Injured New York Rangers defenseman  Marc Staal was cleared for contact, and took a few bumps on the ice from his  teammates as he continues his recovery from a concussion.

The  24-year-old, who has yet to play a game this season because of lingering  effects stemming from a concussion suffered last February, was cleared for  contact Monday for the first time during his recovery process.

“I totally felt fully confident going  on the ice and taking some hits,” Staal told Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record.  “There was no doubt in my mind it was the right thing to do.”

Staal  was on the Madison   Square Garden  ice Monday morning in advance of the Rangers' game against the New  York Islanders. There is still  no timetable for his return to game action.

Staal's overall conditioning remains as the  last barrier to his return.

Although it is possible he could play against  the Philadelphia  Flyers in the Winter Classic, it does not appear likely.

He  was given the green light by team medical staff and specialist Dr. Robert Cantu  after coming through last week's rigorous week of practice and two-day holiday  break feeling well.

Packers TE Finley sore left knee but believes that he can play Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley says he sat out Wednesday’s practice after he woke up with his left knee bothering him. Finley says his knee isn’t a major concern, but seemed to agree it might be smart for him to sit out Sunday’s regular-season finale against Detroit. But he believes he can play in the regular-season finale against the Detroit Lions. Finley says “of course” it would be smart to rest in a game that doesn’t have playoff seeding implications for the Packers, but he’s not “the head coach or the GM, so I’m going to leave that up to them.” Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he found out about Finley's knee issue right before practice and said he had "no feeling" on the tight end's status. Wide receiver Greg Jennings will miss his third straight game with a sprained left knee.Defensive end Ryan Pickett returned to practice Wednesday, Left tackle Chad Clifton (hamstring) also practiced

Awesome shawl!  Love the colors you had it knit in, they really accentuate the pattern and the beading.  Elegant in its simplicity.  :)
