I am having trouble getting the gauge right with substitute yarn.  I've tried both a 4ply and a 5ply yarn and neither come anywhere near 20 sts to 10cm on 3.75mm needles, and I am a loose knitter.  If a DK yarn usually gives 24sts to 10cm, how does a finer yarn on finer needles give less stitches?
