Simple T shape.  Maximum square size was 6 inches, larger than this & they go 'baggy'.  Instead of increasing the number of stitches I increased the needle size in working down the coat.  I started with squares on a size 9 (UK) needle and finished on squares knitted with size 7.  The edgings were 4 rows of double crochet done quite tightly.  The buttons were made from chain stitch catching on itself until a firm sphere of a suitable size was formed.
