Chinese Blue-and-White Motifs to Embroider

In keeping with traditional Chinese embroideries, which were worked mainly in cross-stitch with indigo-dyed cotton thread on white cotton fabric, this placemat is worked on 18-count Aida cloth with cotton embroidery floss.

Aida cloth or any other even-weave cotton or linen fabric, 18-count, 1 piece 14 × 19 inches (35.6 × 48.3 cm), Antique White
DMC Embroidery Floss, 100% cotton thread, 8 meters (8.7 yd)/skein, 4 skeins of #311 Indigo Blue and 1 skein of Blanc
Sewing thread, light color
John James Needle, tapestry, size 24
Embroidery hoop or scroll frame (optional)
Finished size: Placemat, 12 × 17 inches (31.1 × 43.8 cm); rabbit medallion, 6 7/8 inches (17.5 cm) in diameter; border, 1 5/8 inches (4.1 cm) wide and 1 repeat, 5 3⁄8 inches (13.7 cm) long; corner motif, 2 inches (5.7 cm) on the short sides
