I am trying to figure out the placement of the granny squares to get the correct color arrangement as in the pictures and it is very confusing to me.  Short of trying to chart it out in Excel,  can you offer an easier way to do the layout?

Thanks Roni

love this pattern.  did not think I would EVER do a granny square crocheted afghan but bought all the yarn and made my first square today while on a road trip.
