I'm a science teacher by day, and needlecrafter by night. It doesn't seem right to just sit and watch t.v. or sit and do anything else unless I'm knitting or needlepointing. Knitting is more portable for travel, but my needlepoint frames come apart and manage to fit into my luggage.
An aunt taught me to knit as a ***, and I got serious about making things when I had my first child. Since knitting is contageous, and I showed a few friends some basics, I now have a regular group of friends to knit with. We learn from each other.
