Knitting has been an intimate part of my life since my obsession with needles and yarn emerged around age 12. A biomedical illustrator by education, I worked as staff illustrator and photostylist for Interweave Press for 9 years before returning for a PhD in textiles and clothing. Now I teach history of costume and other textiles topics at a university, and I wrote Knitting America: From Warm Socks to High Art (Voyageur Press, 2007). Writing this book brought me to the realization that I have so much more to learn about the history and the 'architecture' of hand knitting. And so I'll continue to read and look at collections and design hand knitting.
