• Re: Knitting in the (Near) Dark
I first used it on some crewel work that had a dark brown fabric background and I needed to really see well. It really lit up the individual stitches. It is like 'open heart surgery' when you don't want to pull out the wrong threads.
Glad I'm not the only one doing "open heart surgery"

  • Re: Can't crochet but would like to learn

Thanks! I'll try finding a class somewhere. At the community college they offer lots of knitting classes and maybe they have a crochet class, too. I know it might really be a big help if someone could show me how to do it.

  • Re: Knitting in the (Near) Dark

Well, I only use those light-up needles when I am working something in black yarn. As for knitting in dark places, I got myself one of those lamps on a headband, that you can put on your forehead. My husband loves to make fun of it ("Are you doing an open heart surgery today?") but it really works. And since I often have to sit in the back

  • Re: Criteria you use to measure up your favorite yarn shop.

For me it is mostly a question of staff, prices and special order service. There is a quite good yarn shop in the city centre of my hometown, but the staff and the owner smoke in the backroom and the yarn is always smelly. So I don't often go there and buy wool there, since I don't want to have smelly yarn to work with. I even drive a few kilometres

  • Re: Phiaro Scarf

Thank you! A soy/cotton mix is on my list for this pattern. But right now I am stuck on a different pattern and won't start on the Phiaro scarf until part of my todo-list is finished. *sigh*

  • Re: Translating a german pattern into English

I could have a look at it. Email me off-list and we can talk about it. I do knitting translations quite often.

  • Re: new yarn storage

That's a great idea! I don't have room for another closet but I do have one of those hanger things for clothes (used to be occupied by lots of T-shirts). I might use this. So far I have been using a big box which is under my bed - you see lots of doubling over, bending knees, stooping, back cracking etc. I would really like to reorganize my

  • Can't crochet but would like to learn

Hello, Quite frankly put, I can't crochet. I have learned it several times, both my grandmothers showed me, even one of my great-grandmothers, my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law but it seems I can't get the hang of it. Oh, don't get me wrong, I can do a crochet chain and I can also crochet along the edge of a knitted piece but I would

  • Bust Darts for Flat Chests?

Hello, Yes, I have already posted this in the comments to today's post, but I wanted to share it here as well. I was wondering, would bust darts make small "assets" seem bigger? I don't have much to show off, plus I am tall (5 ft 10in/178cm), a bit overweight and have really broad shoulders, for a woman. This adds up to me only wearing

Soy silk! Yeah! or a shiny cotton! Hmm, Sandi, you are making it really difficult for me. Merino, well, I guess that would be wonderful. Just that I have no idea how my neck would like merino. I seldom wear "real" wool around my neck. Mostly cotton only. Thanks for the suggestions!
